The Christ monument in Havana.
The Christ monument standing guard over Havana from the district of Casablanca; it is one of the city´s most striking sculptures. The art deco style statue was hewn from Italian Carrera marble by a Cuban lady, Jilma Madera, and is the tallest sculpture by a female sculptor in Cuba. From this location there is a spectacular view that has its top moment when the Sun is rising or getting down with an outstanding effect on the sea. The monument was inaugurated on December 25 of 1958 and was the lady latest grand work; she had glaucoma 3 years after and lost the sight.
